This is a little history about Style House Pte Ltd………………. Style House Pte Ltd was the brain child of founder Justin Lim. Together with the assistance of his partner Stephanie Tok, Style House has gone from strength to strength. Justin vision was to brand Style House as a leading grooming school in Asia where all parents would want to sign up their children to learn life skills such as self-esteem building, personal grooming etc. Style House begins its humble origin as Justin Lim Image Consultancy in 2001, working from home. However, for branding and marketing reason purposes, it was renamed as Style House in 2004. After graduating from RMIT University in 1996 at 25 years of age, Justin Lim started his career as a flight attendant with Singapore Airlines. His intention was initially vanity, (he was looking forward to a glamorous lifestyle and to travel the world) but as reality sets in, his focus was to use the traveling opportunities to look for business ideas. His vision of owning a grooming school first took shape after his training course at SIA. He realized that all human beings men or women are vain by nature (except that men tend to suppress this desire because of societal pressure and norms) and therefore so long as there are human beings, grooming services will not go down the path of type-writers. He sets his first goal to become an Image Consultant by the age of 30 years. His road towards becoming an Image Consultant was fraud with many obstacles, especially psychological ones. Family, relatives and friends would mostly question about his unusual career choice. Their main concern is that there is no prospect for a man to be in the beauty business especially a graduate. Most of these skill based profession such as make-up artist, hair stylist and beautician were mostly staffed by individuals with lower academic qualifications and that was the mindset of most Singaporeans then. Only Stephanie Tok stood by him throughout his career, volunteering to be his model during his learning stages and even used her artistic skills to create his website and develop training materials. Well… Justin was so focused on his goals that no matter what obstacles is ahead, he will overcome it. Justin funded his own training and earned his Professional Make-up Artist Diploma, NTC 3 in Hair Dressing, Diploma in Fashion Design and Professional Image Consultation Certificate while working full-time. However, it was as if being an Image Consultant was his destiny, every career move he made paved the way for him and he became an Image Consultant in the year 2000 when he turn 29 years old. After struggling as an Image Consultant for a year, he set his next goal and that was to become a popular image Consultant at 35 years. Justin’s biggest career struggles was during the year 2001 to 2004. During this period, Justin had to juggle several part-time jobs to make ends meet while building his Image business. He worked part-time as a tutor, waiter, special effects make-up artist for a theme restaurant and model. He even job hop several times as an Insurance Agent, Business Development Manager for a cosmetic company, Project Manager for Beauty Pageant Company. Ironical enough, all these companies that he worked for during this period suffered a natural demise. As if sending a signal to Justin that he was not destined for employment. After his last employment in 2002, Justin made up his mind to go full time and he never looked back then. Along his career path, he met several business associates and friends worth mentioning. Good or bad, they all taught him invaluable lessons. Lily, the Chief Trainer of Cosmoprof International.o She specially catered to Justin’s SIA flying schedules and did personal coaching for him. She even asked her maid to stand in as model for him knowing that Justin would have difficulty getting one. Justin was grateful for her kindness even up till today. Justin graduated with a ’Professional Make-up Artist Diploma’. Jeric See, owner of Reds Salon.o Jeric told Justin that he managed to build 7 salons with only an ‘O’ level certificate and good hair dressing skills. That inspired Justin that he too can build a business with minimal funds. Justin graduated with a NTC3 Hairdressing Certificate which took him a year as opposed to his classmates which took 6 months because of his flying schedule. It was pure hard work as he often has to intern during his off days as a shampoo boy as part of the course, fighting jet lag. Senior Executive, Doreen and GM, Angela Ho of Lancome.o They gave Justin a career head start by offering him a contract to be trained as an elite artist for Lancome. Sending him to train under France’s top make-up artist, Fred Farrugia, in Taiwan and Bangkok. Alex Liu, Metromediao Grooming Justin to win Mr Singapore/International 1999 and the subsidiary titles Mr Best Groomed and Mr Photogenic. o These titles proved crucial in helping Justin to market his image courses. Alex was a good mentor and Justin was grateful for that. Bobby Chng of BC Consultantso A temperamental boss and a very kind friend who gave Justin his big break to work as an Image Consultant. Bobby should be credited for educating Justin about the gay culture in the fashion & beauty world. Eddie Lau Hong Kong’s Image Consultant to the Stars- Credited for being a good role model for Justin to emulate. Eddie’s career path became Justin’s pursuit. Jeffrey Chung of Jeffrey Chung Modelso Introducing the glitzy aspect of the modeling world to Justin. His encouraging words that all business has to go through a struggling phase at a time that was Justin’s career lowest point spurred Justin to the next level. Chef Alvin of Singapore Heritage Restauranto A very knowledgeable friend with supreme intelligence. o Help kick start Justin’s Model & Talent Agency which Justin later incorporates under Style House. o His countless sharing sessions of human nature and religion is really an eye opener. Jimmy Newton of Jimmy Newton Enterpriseo A very talented performer who gave Justin and Stephanie loads of make-up opportunities and business. Showed Justin what stage showmanship is all about. Really missed him. David of David Entertainmento Introduced meditation to Justin which indirectly helped propel his business volume. Also thanks for sharing so many beauty secrets such as collagen. A very positive and kind character. Jackeline Carter of Igamouro An outstanding marketing genius who collaborates with Justin in running a beauty pageant business. o Gave Justin numerous opportunities to choreograph her pageant. Theresa of Urban Beauty Academyo Gave Justin so much business opportunities especially opportunities to upgrade his skills on Style Coaching and Gemstone Massage therapy. Much appreciated. o Showed Justin what dynamism is in running a business. A very sharp personality at picking out the motivation factor of other people. Justin did achieve his goals to become a popular Image Consultant at 35 years. He even became a trainer for Image Consultants churning out his first batch of students, some of whom are still in touch. At 35 years, Justin set his next goal and that is to turn Style House into a full fledge agency that manages Models & Talents; Image Consultants and Make-up Artist by the time he turn 40 years. Style House has since moved to a 300 sq2 office in Palmer Road, a considerable leap since it began operation from home.
